I’ve been crushin’ so hard on some finds this week. Here’s my favorite finds from around the web and in-stores.
|| one || These Antler Melody Knobs from Anthropologie caught my eye for a furniture makeover I have up my sleeve. They come in an array of colors. || two || I love love love these Mid-century Printed Bowls from West Elm. They would be so cute on a desk. || three || OK, so like I really need another lamp! I am trying to justify a reason to get this awesome Nate Berkus Table Lamp and NB Lampshade with Gold Foil Lining. I saw it in person at Target and it is pur-ty! || four || This Greek Key Handle Tray with Bamboo Stand from CWonder got me weak in the knees. So, so gorgeous…maybe I’ll splurge on that soon or a possible Valentines’ Day present?? I’m going to be dropping some not so subtle hints about this one! || five || And, yes! I am a stationery glutton. I love the classic simplicity of this Kate Spade Monogram Card Set. There is just something so wonderful about gold, black, and cream together. So decadent!
To my friends on the east coast, I hope you are surviving the great freeze! It’s cold here too, but it sounds like you guys are getting hit hard! Stay bundled and drink lots-o-cocoa!! That’s my advice! I’ll be doing the same except it will be tea since I am on this AI Paleo plan.

Today we are sharing our projects for Week 3 of the Inspired Design Challenge. West Elm was our inspiration for the week and I am excited to reveal our latest DIY!
As you know, we are collecting items for our very first gallery wall in our home. I really want this wall to speak to who we are as a family. I’ve been printing photos, collecting art, making things, and this August we will be revealing our gallery wall.
I have loved this West Elm Abstract Art Collection since the first time I saw it:
I wanted one feature piece on our wall since a lot of the other items are smaller. When I saw these, I knew this was something that me and the boys could make together.
This project cost us less than $15 which I love because the West Elm version was a lot more than I was willing to pay.
To build the canvas:
• A canvas drop cloth (I got mine at Lowes) Super inexpensive!
• wood for frame from the Lumber Dept. 12 ft for a 3 x 2 1/2 foot frame
• wood screws and drill
• staple gun and staples
There are several ways to build a frame for your canvas, from trial and error we have learned to add corner pieces to ensure a sturdy and level frame.
My boys were excited to paint with me. We took it outdoors since the weather has been absolutley gorgeous!
We just used the art and craft paint we already had on hand. We didn’t use any fancy brushes, just basic craft brushes. I made the first brush stroke and we took turns painting line after line.
Once we got our black brush strokes painted, we followed with white brush strokes, filling in and blending all the gaps.
I am still recovering from being sick all week, but this was a fun low-key activity that I could do with the kids. I love that we made this together and that it will be the key piece to our gallery wall.
I think we did pretty darn good! I haven’t decided on how I want to frame it yet. My first instinct is gold, but I may change my mind.
I really love the contrast and texture. Layering the paint worked really well. I showed the boys the inspiration image and they felt like professional little artists. They were so proud. A nice little memory for us to share and I love that we all worked together to create it.

Howdy! I’m just popping in to share the inspiration for next week’s challenge. Week 3 of the Inspired Design Challenge is West Elm!!
If you’ve been following along with the Inspired Design Challenge you know the drill, but if you are new here’s what we are doing. Those lovely ladies above and I are challenging ourselves to take inspiration from some of our favorite stores to makeover our homes. This could be a DIY inspired by a piece at the store, a vignette from a catalog, or a copy cat project for less.
Week 1 was Target. I did a DIY project based off the new Threshold SuperNatural Home Collection:
Week 2 was Urban Outfitters and I did a copy cat of their birdcage candle holder.
My inspiration image for the week 3 West Elm Challenge is one you may know well:
West Elm Abstract Black + White Wall Art
Well, if you have the money, these are on sale right now. My penny-pinching ways won’t allow me to spend it right now and I am working on a way to make this on the cheap. I have an art background, how hard can it be, right? Famous last words…I have seen several different takes on this and I’m sure you have too–I love them all. If you want to see a different take on this check out Jesse’s DIY Abstract Art over at Scout & Nimble. Mine will be a bit different. That’s what I love about art, its expression and the feeling of a moment. What can I say, I think this will be the perfect addition to our gallery wall.
Are you ready for some more inspiration? Check out Angie, Jennifer, Lindsay, and Sara’s blogs and see what they are working on for Monday:
