Why I Love My HomeRight SteamMachine Plus and a GIVEAWAY!!

I’d like to thank HomeRight for sponsoring this post.

Howdy! Today, I am talking about love. The kind of love that comes from a husband…and a steam mop.

I am sharing my favorite new HomeRight product, the HomeRight SteamMachine Plus.  You will also have a chance to win one of your own at the end of this post!

HomeRight Steam Machine Plus Giveaway

The SteamMachine Plus Multi-purpose Steam Mop is an ideal tool to use on floors! It is a natural, safe, chemical-free way to clean. It kills 99.9% of germs and bacteria including e-coli, salmonella, and staph. The handle also folds down for easy storage and the steamer is handheld too. It comes with an array attachments to get the job done. It isn’t just for floors though, it has so many other features.

Before, we get into all that…let’s talk love.

Love is a man who will change out of his pajamas on a relaxing Saturday morning to stand on the front steps of your home in broad daylight with the front door wide open to take pictures of his wife mopping the floor and might I add — doesn’t even think twice about it –so you can get this shot:

Homeright Steam Mop 2

Love is also realizing that a steam mop can get your floor even cleaner from the day before when you mopped it with a regular mop and cleaner…

This was just after mopping one pass! At first, I was a little upset. Not at the steam mop…(pssst! I love you steam mop!!) more at the fact that I just mopped this floor the day before.

So, I had to ponder:

a) I am not as great as a housekeeper as I have always thought.

b) That my kids are just really that dirty and track in that much grossness in a day’s time

c) That this HomeRight SteamMachine Plus ROCKS.

i totally think it’s C. Let’s talk this out.

My entry way is used a couple of times a day. We have a jute rug that covers the floor and catches all the stuff that the kids and Zoey, our puppy, bring in.

entry-way rug

So, to give this steam mop the true test of clean, I used it on this floor that I just mopped the day before…just to see…I wasn’t even going to blog it…I was going to use it on my bathroom floor that I knew was ready for a clean.

Ummmm…yeah….mind blown!

So, here’s the bonus. You are just using steam. No chemicals or cleaners. It sanitizes and cleans. I am becoming a quick believer that steam is the only clean.

The HomeRight SteamMachine Plus is really easy to use.

one–detach and fill the water tank

two–attach the water tank, plug it in, and turn it on

three–wait 25 seconds or less for the blue light to turn on…that means it’s ready

Another feature I really love about this steam mop is that the mop attachment is angled and it swivels so you can fit in corners and along walls easily.

I was pretty amazed at how much grossness came off the floor. Once you are done, you can just pop the mop pad in the wash for future uses. It also comes with another mop pad so you are ready to go!

You can take the steam machine out and use it as a handheld steam cleaner too. It can clean all kinds of things. Grout, hard to reach areas, countertops, tile, glass, ovens, carpet– you can even steam garments and fabric. I steamed my curtains because I had wrinkles that were bothering me! Worked like a charm!

I used the smaller brush attachment to see if I could get a stain off the floor that we have not been able to get off with any cleaner. We inherited the stain with the house and we have no idea what it is. I wish it could talk and I could ask it, “What are you and where did you come from.”

Guess what? It worked! I was so happy!!

Good For You || Lean Cuisine Honestly Good

This post is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group™ and Lean Cuisine, but all my opinions are my own. #pmedia #HonestlyGood #ad

Hey Friends!

Today I am going to give you a peek into one of my mornings around here. Are you excited?!? Well, this glamorous lifestyle I lead doesn’t happen without effort.

Are you laughing yet??

OK, maybe the lifestyle of a DIY blogger and mom isn’t that glamorous, but it is time-consuming. I am busy, like most of us always are. I take my health seriously and try to stick to a healthy diet even with all the go-go-go. So today, I get to share with you a quick and healthy alternative that takes just a couple of minutes to make and it can be found in the freezer aisle.

But first, here’s a glimpse of a typical morning around here. This is the short version and I left out the really boring stuff like laundry and dishes.

I am the early riser of our home. I get up around 5:30 or 6:00 every morning. I get things going, do the obvious things like brush my teeth, and if it’s a run day and nice out I hit the pavement. Sometimes I end up at the gym after school drop off, but on this particular day it was perfect outdoor running weather. When I get back, I take care of our dog, Zoey, since she is the next one to get up.

before-school Then my little guy, Sam, cuddles with me on the couch while I answer emails and respond to comments on the blog. If I have some time I read my favorite blogs.

While the boys have breakfast, I jump in the shower and freshen up. Then, I blend a smoothie and a to-go coffee and we head out the door for school drop off. Our school is about 20 minutes away so we have a little extra drive time.

When Sam and I get home, we play or read together.  I grab my second cup of coffee and respond to comments and anything pressing. Then, I like to take the hours of 10am-11:00am to work on projects or run errands. Today was grocery day so I made a Target run. By the time I get home, it is lunch time and I only have about 20 minutes to make and eat our lunches before I have to get back in the car and take Sam to preschool.

Speaking of lunch…

I tried out the new Lean Cuisine Honestly Good meals all last week.

Lean Cuisine now offers a new line of healthy and all natural meals. I have been very careful to make sure I’m not eating foods with lots of additives and preservatives. Most the freezer meals that are offered are full of those guys. Not a fan. For lunch, I usually eat a salad with fruit, low-fat cheese, a lean protein, and oil and vinegar on top. I usually don’t veer from that too often because I need something fast and I know that it is really good for me. I admit, I get tired of it sometimes, so you can imagine my excitement to try these Lean Cuisine Honestly Good meals out!

I took the time to try each one of the 6 Lean Cuisine Honestly Good meals. I love that they are fresh and have unique blends of flavors. My favorites are the Lemongrass Salmon and the Honey Citrus Chicken.

These meals only take about 5 mins. to make which is perfect for me. Everything tastes fresh and the meats aren’t your typical freezer meal meats. They are tender and tasty. You get a full cut of chicken, fish, or beef. I am so glad that these are available now because they are a nice alternative to my everyday salad.

Today, I had the Honey Citrus Chicken again. I think it just might be my favorite.

Yum! That was good! I love that they are fresh and all natural with a good blend of wholesome ingredients. Now I feel ready to tackle the rest of the day!

You can pick up Lean Cuisine Honestly Good meals at Target. There are 6 meals to choose from, I suggest you try a new each day and find your favorites. You can try Honey Citrus Chicken, Lemongrass Salmon, Pineapple Black Pepper Beef, Plum Ginger Grain-Crusted Fish, Pomegranate Chicken, Roasted Red Pepper Chicken.

Here’s another thing to love about these meals. Not only are you eating clean and healthy, but Lean Cuisine together with their farmers are donating a portion of the vegetables grown for LEAN CUISINE HONESTLY GOOD meals to local communities. By purchasing an Honestly Good meal you are helping others eat healthy too!

New Organizher and a GIVEAWAY for you!!

It is no secret that I have been a fan of the Organizher products at Target. You’ve seen me post about them in our family command center and I shared some new Organizher products here.

Well, today the lovely people at Organizher have sent me the new Organizher all-in-one memo book to review.

And…I got one for you too! At the end of this post you can enter to win your very own Organizher all-in-one memo book! YAY!

I just started using this Organizher all-in-one memo book and it is fantastic! Perfect timing too, because it’s just in time for the kids going back to school! That is busy-crazy time in my house! There are tons of planners and trackers out there, but I need something that multi-functions. This is a godsend! It has an area for meal planning, tracking monthly expenses, a calendar for family scheduling, and a place with folders and blank lists for organization. Perfect for the busy mom on-the-go!

I am a meal planner, and this is great because it is divided up weekly and that is how I like to shop and plan. I can plan my meals in the meals section and then make my grocery list and store my coupons in the organization section.

In the scheduling section is a weekly calendar to keep track of all your family member’s schedules. The expenses section tracks all your monthly expenses.

This is exactly what I needed for the start of the school year. Everything in one place, just like I like it!

I wanted to share with you the Mead Organizher products I used on the side of my fridge. I needed something magnetic and these products rock!

Organizeher Products

The Organizher calendar is perfect for a busy family. It has a spot for each family member’s schedule and a place to plan out your meals. Plus, it’s large, which I like. You can use the magnets or hang it up.

The magnetic notepad is perforated and gives a spot for two lists. One for shopping and one for “to-do’s”.

The magnetic mail holder has dry-erase labels. It is also magnetic or has hooks to hang on the wall. Super Handy!

I also purchased the Shopping Companion to keep in my purse. It has lists for groceries, shopping, and lots of folders to hold coupons.

Things I Have Learned While Suffering Through the Flu.

I would like to report that we are all healthy again. That is what I would like to report. This flu has really taken over our week! It started with Dave last week and then one by one we each fell victim. With a house of fevering, sleeping, coughing, crying, and miserable people we got a whole lot of nothing done. We are still not in the clear, but today is the first day I put on a bra so I consider that progress.

Here’s some nuggets of wisdom from the not so wise that I have discovered while suffering the flu:

1. Tea is good.

I am a coffee lover to a fault. I’ve never really given tea a chance until this flu. I have to say I am a fan! Even after I am healthy again I may have a new nighttime ritual of tea with honey before bedtime. Here’s a few of my new favorite teas:

10dbdc5dbe15d5e6c254bc2db476ce57 23cb225d2988b059e60b573d094f2a2e 404e495394dc4ba9bae1c520e162851c 711b3740218810432dec4e684ba4ed9b

2. I love the way he says popsicle.

My youngest has been on a steady diet of popsicles. It’s the only thing he will eat right now. But he says it like pop-sis-all. Too cute!

Is this not the creepiest ad! Sorry had to include it. Creepy Clown Kid wants to you to buy his popsicles...

Is this not the creepiest ad!? Sorry had to include it. Creepy Clown Kid wants you to buy his popsicles…Go peddle your devil’s candy somewhere else evil clown child!

3. Chicken soup out of a can is sub par.

When Dave came home sick, I made him a big batch of chicken noodle soup. You know the kind. The kind that says home and can grow back a limb. Big fat noodles and all. It’s definitely medicinal. But when Momma’s sick there is no one to make the soup. I’m sorry Campbell’s but you don’t stack up. I am too tired to stand over a stove today to make it. I spent all my energy blow-drying my hair sitting down. Yes, that is actually the truth. That was exhausting.

4.  Suffering in numbers is better than suffering alone.

At the very least, I can say that when everyone is sick it does ease your conscience.  To lay in bed all day, part of that sleeping might I add, when all the people around you are doing the same does make you feel like it is not a big deal that everything you normally would be doing is not getting done. Having the flu together is also a great excuse to watch every Disney movie you own and there isn’t a bit of guilt in it at all. Another thing is you really don’t have to worry about spreading germs because you all already have the flu. So, you can all lay in the same bed and take turns passing the Kleenex box and can all stay on the same medicine schedule.

I am a little dismayed that all my cleaning efforts did not pay off. I spent so much time deep-cleaning, Lysol-ing, and overall de-germing our house from top to bottom. And for what? I still got the flu. We all did. I tried but in the end the flu won.

Well, I’m off to go sleep and cough, and sleep and cough some more. Maybe I’ll be back next week with everything I had planned to blog about this week.

cook. create. celebrate. Valentine’s Day

Happy DIY Monday!

With Valentine’s Day being only a few days away I thought I’d share with you a tradition we started a couple of years back. Since our kids are young and 5 times out of 7 Valentine’s Day falls on a week night, here is what we do to celebrate as a family. Holidays are big around these parts and no holiday is complete without a meal plan, activities, and decorating.

I give you the Bliss at Home Do-it-Yourself Valentine’s Feast & Party

We are a pasta lovin’ family. If you cut our veins we’d probably bleed Italian and we don’t have a drop of Italian blood running through them…not to my knowledge anyways. We are also a very health-conscious family, so if we do pasta it is a healthy spin on a fat-loaded favorite, but on Valentine’s Day we make exceptions and indulge in one of our favorite dishes Vodka Cream Pasta.

Kristin’s Vodka Cream Pasta with Prosciutto & Basil

extra-virgin olive oil (I use my Misto)

6 slices of prosciutto, cut into small pieces

16oz. penne rigate

3T un-salted butter

3 cloves of fresh garlic

2 shallots, minced

1C vodka

1/2 C chicken stock

2T tomato paste

32 oz. crushed tomatoes

coarse salt & pepper

1/2C heavy cream

fresh basil to taste

freshly grated Parmigiano Reggiano cheese

Crusty bread to compliment dish

Cook pasta until al dente, reserve 1/2 of water

While the pasta is cooking, melt the butter in a large skillet set over medium-high heat. Add the shallots and cook, stirring occasionally, until softened, about 6 minutes. Add the garlic and continue cooking until fragrant, about a minute more.

Stir in tomatoes and their juices. Bring to a simmer. Reduce heat to medium and stir in the tomato paste, vodka, and chicken stock. Cook until most of the alcohol has evaporated, at least 5 minutes.

Stir in cream and salt. Bring to a simmer, then reduce heat to medium-low. Cook sauce until thickened, about 5 minutes.

In a separate non-stick pan add olive oil and fry prosciutto for a couple of minutes at medium-low heat.

Check your sauce. Taste and adjust seasoning as needed. Stir in basil. (If you want a thinner sauce add in reserved water a little at a time until you achieve your desired consistency.)

In a large bowl combine pasta & sauce. Mix in prosciutto and add more basil and the cheese on top.  Serve & enjoy with crusty bread.

I like to serve everyone out of a big old bowl. I call it momma style.

My kids love to help get the table ready. While I’m cooking I put them to work. They set the table, put out the decorations, and my oldest cuts out the Valentine’s hearts for all of us to fill out for each other. This year, now that my youngest is old enough, I’m going to have them decorate a paper runner for the table.

Valentine’s Day is one of those holidays that in my head for some reason it is all about paper decorations. We pretty much just cut out hearts, make crepe paper roses, and hang cupids and dollar store decorations everywhere. The gaudier the better! I might add balloons on the ceiling this year…we’ll see how it goes. The kids seem to like that stuff better anyways.

421767_3321307034514_327870780_n 409379_3321305994488_293394069_n

It’s a holiday, right? So celebrate. We celebrate with more food. No Valentine’s Day feast would be complete with out dessert. This is where Dave comes in. He is in charge of selecting this every year. On his way home from work he picks up the goods. It could be a favorite pie from a restaurant, chocolates from the local chocolatier, or our favorite cake.

We wish you a happy Valentine’s Day!!

Kids and Christmas

Today is the last day of our Home for the Holidays Link Party and we’re ending it on a high note with Anneke over at This, That, & Life.

Our theme for this link party is Kids & Christmas. That could be photographs, kid crafts,  or holiday traditions with your kids.

Our household has been extremely busy this week. Between taking care of a sick kiddo, having to get the holiday shopping done, getting the house ready for overnight guests, and preparing for our first winter snow storm of the year…there hasn’t been time for much else around these parts!

So, I thought I’d share one of my favorite things to do with my kids this wonderful time of year. We usually have a night that we do an impromptu photo session just for fun.

Here’s some of the fun from our 2011 photo shoot. On a side note, I really want a DSLR camera & 50 mm lens! I don’t think Santa will bring that one this year, but I am saving my pennies! I feel a little limited with my current camera, but we make it work.

We just have fun with it! It isn’t so much the quality of the photos, but who is in them. The boys enjoy it and I do too!

Don’t want to lose that ‘MOM-jo’

Well, despite my efforts to avoid illness, one overtook me on Halloween night. I am still feeling the after-effects and it’s been over a week later.

I was able to catch up on some shows when I was laying around trying to get better. I love to watch Guiliana & Bill on the Style network. My husband makes fun of me, but yet he will watch the episodes with me….hmmm. I think he secretly likes them too!

As I was laying in a pool of kleenex, in my flashdance-looking bummy clothes, coughing and sounding like a chain smoker–I realized I am in great risk of losing my ‘mom-jo’!

Did anyone else catch this episode? G & B are preparing for their baby, and the reality of the big life change sets in and G starts to worry about losing here mo-jo, yet she calls it mom-jo because she is going to be a mom soon.

Anyways, it got me thinking. Just because I am not feeling well, and have to take care of kiddos gives me no excuse! I can’t lose my mom-jo!

So, here is my attempt at not losing it–it’s more for my benefit I think, but I don’t want to fall into the live-in-my-work-out-clothes-all-day kind of mom. I got a closet full of clothes, I need to be wearing them!

Not Losing the MOM-JO Day 1:

It was election day, what can I say…

Day 2

Got a compliment from Dave…the mom-jo is working….

Day 3:

So, before you leave that house, don’t forget to keep your mom-jo intact!

Will Today Be THE Day?

Good Morning!!

After illnesses, surgeries, and the regular festivities of the season I am almost apprehensive to say we will work on the kitchen remodel this weekend. Will today be the day we start to tackle that floor again?

Well, I’ll let you know on Monday.

I thought I’d share with you how adorable my kiddos were on Halloween:

Sam got the hand-me-down lion costume and Bman had to be Ironman. We tried to find a costume that would fit his tall frame, but could not. He was die-hard about it. He took the Ironman toys and helmet he had and started grabbing red and gold from his closet. He even put a puffy vest underneath so it would look more like armor. Love this kid!

Happy Halloween!

Since I was starting to feel under the weather, Dave took the kids trick-or-treating. Which means I got to be on candy duty.

I may have had some Reeses peanut butter cups. Like 5!

I hope you all got to enjoy the holiday and now we can all come off our sugar highs and start getting our homes ready for the next!
