The kitchen in the Illinois home was probably one of the most dramatic remodels next to the bathroom. We kept the footprint due to budget constraints, but we made this room a complete night and day difference. We ripped out the cheap tile floor, countertops, old appliances. We painted all the cabinetry and installed new hardware. We installed hardwood floors that matched the original hardwoods throughout the rest of the house. We installed new Carrara marble countertops and subway tile. The lighting was lacking in this room so we completely changed the lighting plan with recessed lighting, pendants over the peninsula, arm lamps to over open shelving, under cabinet lights, a flush mount over the window and a pendant over the table in the breakfast nook. We made the soffits and walls part of the design by adding trim work and mouldings. We also installed a brand new exhaust system with custom hood design. We added cabinetry to match the existing and open shelving. All the appliances got an upgrade and the addition of a beverage cooler.
