You can see the beginning and weekly progress of our ORC makeover here:
Week Five has been a busy one. I have been doing the last-minute projects and running around locally to find a few pieces for styling our spaces for next Monday’s shoot!
At this point in this challenge, our walls have been transformed with grasscloth, paint, and mouldings. The windows have been dressed with fabulous custom draperies and shades. The furnishings and rugs have arrived and have been placed. The amazing antelope stair runner has been installed. Now, it’s all about those all important details that make the design shine.
Today, I wanted to share the art and frames on the walls and the fab picture lighting. The art and lighting play a key role in creating the symmetry I desired to anchor the sitting area. I’ve always been drawn to symmetry in design and this home with its traditional charm set the scene to implement it. The fireplace wall is the perfect canvas to create symmetrical balance on.
We started with creating the grasscloth boxes as our blue print. The windows flanking each side of the fireplace also add to the balancing act. The fireplace is the perfect focal point and the best place to center our floor plan. The rug anchors the sitting area with the fireplace as the exact center. In a perfect world, I would have two of these beautiful sofas, one on each side of the fireplace. But, alas, the sofa has been discontinued and I have not found a match. So a pair of chairs it is.
Let’s talk art and lighting now…
THE PICTURE LIGHT AND ABSTRACT OVER OUR FIREPLACE
I wanted to use a large abstract painting above the fireplace and the one I painted with my kids is perfect and fits the design. I am a big believer in levels of light in a room, so adding a gorgeous picture light seemed like a great addition. I love the lighting at night, just the right amount of glow.
For our picture light, I selected the Hudson Valley Brock 24 1/2″ Aged Brass Picture Light from Lamps Plus.
