Hey buds! I’m excited to share little man’s bedroom makeover today as part of the Fall In Love room reveals! My friend, Cassie from Primitive & Proper, got some of us together for a 6-week kick in the rear to get a room finished and boy, am I glad she did!
If you are coming from Boxy Colonial, welcome! I hope you stay and enjoy!
THE PLAN | Modern Kid Room
My little guy’s room has sat unfinished for months now. We started it before we headed out east and I just hadn’t made time to finish it when we got back this fall. With a little DIY on the cheap and some budget-friendly finds, it is now the room we sat down and planned together! Way ba-aaaack last year, I sat both my boys down for a design consultation. It was the cutest thing seeing what they were drawn to and what ideas they had for their rooms.
Today, you are seeing my youngest’s room. He is a dreamer, loves creatures…all kinds. He has brought worms into the house. YES, WORMS! He is tender and wild at the same time. A ball of energy and full of laughter.
Come on inside and see what we dreamed up…
Little man had a lot of requests for his teeny-tiny room. One big one was a teepee. With his room being so small it took some creative might to make it all work, but I love the end result.
Another thing, my little guy was drawn to was the Pia Wallén cross blanket. That was the inspiration for his accent wall. I DIY’ed it on the cheap and I will share the tutorial soon. His room has textured walls, so I had to come up with a way to do it that wasn’t a decal or paint.
Little man also takes after his momma and loves black + white spaces. So, I painted all the walls white and the baseboards and trim black.
He loves stuffed animals and he wanted a place for his buddies. So that big teepee is where he plays and reads to them.
Thanks to Ylvis, we now know what a fox says, but do you know what a fox reads? Today it’s Where the Wild Things Are.
As you can see, little man loves his books. We found the perfect storage for them with this stackable bookcase. The large basket holds all his buddies.
He had a tiny closet that wasn’t good for much so I changed it into an art nook. My old Ikea desk fit snugly and I just reused some old floating shelves.
The woven stool was a flea market find and it is the perfect height for his desk. I took little man out for a shopping day and he selected the lamp. Good taste that guy!
When we talked about his bed, he said he wanted a bed soft like a teddy bear. We mixed up different textures and he picked out the fur blanket. It does look like a teddy bear.
His older brother has some map art, which I think made him want the same thing. So, I obliged and made some for him too.
His dresser is so old and he needs a new one. I haven’t found one yet, so I made some DIY agate hardware. Little buddy collects rocks and stones so he loved the idea.
In my original plan, I wanted to make my own light fixture, but the clock was ticking so I was happy to find this inexpensive one at Home Depot. It’s industrial and works well with the rest of the room.
I wanted the windows to have coverage but be simple, so I opted for bamboo shades.
That’s that! Little man loves his new room! I’ll be sharing more about the cross wall and the DIY agate hardware next week. I also will post a source list soon that covers everything featured in his room.
