Sometimes I get a wild hair to do something new to our spaces at the oddest times. Dave and I were getting ready Saturday morning to finish up tiling the shower and I decided this the perfect moment to tweak the finished half of the bathroom. I know, so weird, right?
I decided my zebra print that I affectionately call “Mr. Zebrawski” should live in the bathroom now. (I have musical art in my house to match the musical chairs.) So, I leaned Zebrawski against the wall next to the door and decided that was pretty darn perfect in its imperfect leaning way. It adds some more contrast and pulls that wall together for me.
The only minor hiccup with this design choice is that now you have a zebra giving you the side-eye when you are doing your paperwork. It’s okay though, because Mr. Zebrawski is family and I figuire this is what animals at the zoo go through daily. My home is somewhat of a zoo with animals on parade, so it feels quite fitting.
I started looking at Pinterest later that weekend to see if there were some good inspo of bathrooms with leaning art and there were….but…there were some interesting comments on some of those pins.
“What a dust collector!”
“Get a nail and hammer and put it up so you don’t ruin it!”
Wow! People are pretty passionate about leaning art in the bathroom!
Well, I for one, don’t have an issue with it. It’s not like it is right next to toilet and you are going to PEE ALL OVER IT! As for the dust issue…you have to dust once a week, so what’s the big deal of having to dust art? I could see this getting ruined if it was– like I said earlier –by the potty or hanging in the shower…but, not here on the wall next to the door. Unless your young boys are having a contest to hit the opposing wall you should be safe.
I got a good chuckle out of that one. So, does leaning art in the bathroom freak you out? I am going to pin this image to my Pinterest board and ignore all the passionate comments…hee, hee.
I for one am a fan of this design choice and you can check out my BATHROOM board on Pinterest if you want more inspo.
Oh, and since I was tweaking things…I had to put some fresh peonies in there too.
I realize this is pretty ridiculous since we were getting ready to do manual labor, but what a mood enhancer when you are about to place a bazillion little hexagon tiles up all the walls! Plus, there are aspects of my behavior that are a bit ridiculous. Those tendencies (I hope!) Dave finds endearing, but he probably thinks them all annoying and loves me despite them.
Oh, and in my defense, I over-bought for my photo shoot last week. My flower lady told me this was her last batch of peonies for the season, so naturally, I took that as my cue to buy enough for my entire house. Naturally. When in Rome, or should I say, when in the neighborhood Schnucks.
So, there you have it. Mr. Zebrawski and the peonies. It sounds like some mediocre indie rock band. That about sums up my weekend.
As for a little Bathroom Phase Two update…yahoo! The tile in the shower is done!! Now, we are moving onto addressing the tub basin. I guess it is a 3 day process to recoat the tub. It is a lot cheaper than hiring someone to do it, so the savings have us taking it on ourselves. In a hushed voice, “YA-AAAAY.”
You know what I am going to do when this is all finished? I’m going to have Dave take the boys out somewhere and enjoy a spa like moment in that space. I can’t do it when they are home because the moment I slip into that tub some major catastrophe will happen like the remote is lost, or a Transformer won’t transform…and then I’ll have little people banging down the door with their requests.
After that long soak…
Then, I’m going to invite friends over for a dinner party, because we haven’t done that in ages! It’s hard to have people over when your one and only bathroom is in disarray.
Things are looking up at the Cadwallader house!
Oh, and Friday I posted an Ikea hack in case you missed it. Fridays sometimes feel like an off day to post projects. I think everyone is in weekend mode, I know I am! Check it out if you want some inspiration on how to transform the the infamous Ikea Rast dresser.
