Hello! It’s fun sharing the befores of our home here in Connecticut. Our vintage colonial makeover is going to begin soon! YAY! Today, I’m showing you the befores of our formal living room that is open to the breakfast area and kitchen. You can catch the befores of the entry way and staircase HERE if you missed it.
I’ve been doing some scheming this week and nailing down exactly what I want to do in here since we decided this is going to be the first room we transform. The only pieces staying in this room will be the sofa, the coffee table, and probably the chairs. Other than that, this room has a lot of changes coming!
Let’s see those befores…
The living room runs front to back on the main level. It’s the main room you see right now when you walk through our front door. It also opens up into the hallway and shares an open concept layout with the breakfast area and kitchen. French doors on the back of the room lead you into the sunroom.
There are so many things we love about this room, so the goal here is to keep its vintage charm but add in some much-needed style and some modern elements. We need improved lighting at night and it doesn’t have a single window covering. I also want to layer in more warmth and texture with grasscloth, a larger area rug, new paint, and some new fabrics.
Here are some more views of the space:
That’s pretty much the layout and some examples of that 1940’s charm and detail that this home still has. I think it won’t take that much to make it reflect our sensibilities. It’s pretty vanilla right now, but has good bones so we are excited to put our stamp on it!
I’ve been working on some ideas…more like idea doodles…but it helped me visualize things better…
I’ve gotten the ball rolling on this space and thank you for all your input on my grasscloth dilemma on IG stories (Instagram @blissathome1)!! I had to see it at night and in the daylight to really make my decision.
I love both the choices above and I’ll be sharing a style board in my next post on this space with all my design choices. That way you can see the whole look of what I want to do in here.
Next, I’ll be sharing my style board and decisions I made for this space! Have a fab day friends!
