Hi All! Let the sharing begin! As you saw last week, I am settled in enough here to start sharing and working on some projects. Today, I thought I’d show you our entry way and staircase and walk you through what I’d like to accomplish in this area of our home.
The staircase is the first thing you see when you open our front door. I’m not going to lie, I totally love that. As a kid, I always wanted a house with a pretty staircase right when you walk in. That totally carried over into my adult life too!
I’m making do with things from our Illinois home until I make some design choices. The runner is not the proper length for the hallway and I don’t like the pattern for the direction I want to go. The living room, breakfast nook, kitchen, and hallway are all open to each other, so I want to unify the design in these adjoining spaces. We entertained Friday night and it’s actually a really great flow with this layout.
Our eventual plan for this wall in the hallway is to completely litter it with photographs of our family and friends from top to bottom.
Unifying frames and black and white photos to tie all the different images together. We moved away from our loved ones in Illinois, so I want a reminder front and center in our home of everyone that is miles away now.
There is a long and short game going on here with this home. In the next year (the long game), we are going to do some construction. Part of that includes opening up this wall into the dining room. It will give a better flow to the house and allow light to filter into this side of the space more.
For now (short game), I just want to make a cute little drop off nook along the wall. Maybe with a mirror, and a slender peekaboo table. Stashing things in baskets underneath and a little umbrella holder on the side.
We may even grasscloth the walls here to tie into what we want to do in the living room…maybe.
The staircase is so lovely, it really just needs some paint since it has scuff marks. Another addition will be a stair runner, because poor little Zoey keeps slipping on the wood. It will be fun to shop for the right carpet to add here. I’ve been looking at Karastan and Stark and they both have great options.
Another thing to address, which ties into the long game, is a complete exterior overhaul and this door is getting the lacquer treatment! The paint is dingy and a bit too rustic for my taste.
Next time…I’ll be taking you through the living room and showing you all the befores and going over what we want to achieve in there…
That’s all the sharing for The Connecticutie today! This vintage colonial is going to make quite the lovely abode for us. I hope you enjoy following along on our new home journey!
