Hi All! It’s been a bit since we have chatted! I’m blogging from our new home in Connecticut!
After a few weeks, we finally feel settled in. There are still boxes to unpack and things to do, but our home is functioning. I have the kids plugged into their new school and activities to where I feel like I can focus back on our home and some design projects once again.
I hope you all have had a great start to 2017. It’s been an exciting one for us, just because we love New England so much and we are thrilled we get to live here.
So, in the weeks ahead I’ll be sharing our home room by room. Don’t you love seeing into homes? I am definitely one of those people too, so you are in good company!
If you’ve caught me on Instagram (follow me here: @blissathome1), you may have already seen some tiny glimpses into our vintage colonial. I’m affectionately calling her The Connecticutie. She’s a lovely home on a lovely street. She needs some attention, but we feel we are the right family for the job. I feel like she is going to be quite the graceful lady when our work is finished. She’s got that vintage charm, good bones, and loads of character, but she is going to be a project. We have plans for her and I’m excited to share them as we go.
Talking with some of our new neighbors, it’s been fun to hear the history of the neighborhood. So, fun fact…they filmed a Cary Grant movie a few houses down the street from us.
It’s airing on TCM again, so I think we’ll have to watch it!
Here’s what’s new for 2017
–So just a few updates to get you up to speed here. Our BH Family Room reveal is on hold, (for a good reason), but I can’t share it yet.
—Better Homes & Gardens just came out with a new special magazine called I Did It. All you do-it-yourselfers might want to check it out! You’ll see one of our projects featured in there too. Get the issue HERE.
–We are starting some projects in The Connecticutie and I’ll be sharing details on those soon.
So, I couldn’t come back from our holiday and moving break and not post a few pics of the new place. I’ll be starting the official room-by-room sharing next week, but here’s just a glimpse at a small collection of the things we love about this home.
This home has AMAZING light and right off the entry way there is a front to back formal living room:
I really love the original 1940’s built-in bookcases…even the hardware is to my taste–so I really don’t want to do much to change them…Eventually, I might back them…but they are pretty darn great as-is:
The fireplace moulding is outstanding. I love the craftsmanship:
The nook at the top of the staircase is another sweet detail:
And we love the original tile work in the boys’ bathroom:
This home checks all the boxes in the charm category. Hardwoods, detailed mouldings and trim, a fireplace, built-ins, black and white tile, french doors, etc. It does need some updating in other areas but we can definitely see where investing in this property would be a smart decision for our family.
That’s all for today. Just a few glimpses for you. I’ll be starting the room by room sharing next week and our plans for this vintage home.
