Creating Your Dream Kitchen with Electrolux Suite Designs

We have been doing this kitchen remodel for what seems like a century! No, not really, but fitting in a big remodel into our regular busy lives has been a challenge. As we have mentioned before this little 1950′s ranch of ours is our new dream house. No dream house is complete without a dream kitchen. We are making progress on the dream kitchen. We are finally seeing a light at the end of the tunnel. Our countertops will be installed in June and we are weighing backsplash options. One thing that I am super excited about is getting new appliances!! Our poor oven is on its last leg and our dishwasher is so small.

I’ve been shopping around and know I want stainless. I also want them all to match and function. Quality is key. This is an investment for us and I don’t want to have to replace them anytime soon. I really like Electrolux’s Suite Design Approach. The key to creating a stylish yet functional kitchen is embracing the art of “Suite Design,” selecting beautiful appliances that complement one another – like the Electrolux matching suites of appliances, which are sleek, stylish and ingeniously designed to enable professional results.

In the image above, I really love the open shelving and the built-in look of the appliances. This kitchen looks so functional and well laid out. Dave and I have decided to incorporate open shelving into our design for our everyday dishes and cups. We go through them so fast that I have no concern about anything collecting dust. Plus, it’s all white porcelain which will also look great in our overall kitchen design.

I also really like that Electrolux offers great options:

  • Electrolux French Door Bottom Mount refrigerators feature a versatile Perfect Temp drawer that allows you to store and serve items at their ideal temperature
  • Electrolux Cooktops have a clean, sleek look that features induction technology that gives you the capabilities of a professional chef at home
  • Electrolux Dishwashers feature adjustable, customizable racks that can fit more than 180 items in a single load

If I can fit 180 items in my new dishwasher, I will be in heaven!

Electrolux 2

I really love how each appliance is designed to coordinate. The finishes and hardware all complement one another. Oh, I can’t wait to cook my first meal with new functional appliances!

Kitchen Backsplash Options

Kitchen Possible!

Well, it’s been a little bit since our last Kitchen Possible! update. We finally settled on what we want for our countertops. It’s so funny too, because it’s right back where we began! Carrara marble folks! We looked through online images, shopped our local suppliers, touched, sniffed, and licked just about every countertop option. I’m only joking about the sniffing and licking, but it felt like we might as well! Nothing compared to the Carrara marble so we are going to go for it and I am going to extensively research how to properly care for it.

Now we are onto backsplash options. A beautiful tile backsplash can really add beauty and interest to a kitchen design. Not only are they easy to clean, but they can be done in so many patterns.

Here’s some of the options we are considering.

Herringbone Backsplash

I really love this pattern. I would probably do white tile since our countertops will be marble.

 Glass Tile Backsplash

Glass Tile {via}

I really love this in an aqua or mint blue. I just can’t decide if I want to bring color in the room this way.

Subway Tile Backsplash

This is so classic and traditional. It never goes out of style. It also looks good against a marble countertop.

Mosaic Tile Backsplash

Mosaic Tile {via}

I really like this modern twist on a mosaic. Very beautiful indeed!

Honeycomb Tile Backsplash

Octagonal patterns are popping up once again. Fabrics, lighting, and tile are all featuring this pattern. I really love it with the open shelving.

Stainless Steel Backsplash

This is so different and chic. I like the smaller tiles for this and how it catches the light.

Decisions, decisions…

Have a great weekend!!

Week in Review

The grass is getting green just in time for us to get some flurries. What? Yup, that’s April in Illinois.  It was a fun week around here and you know I am happy to be back on my schedule. Here’s the weekly recap and a Kitchen Possible! Update.

DIY Monday.

DIY Desk Makeover

On Monday, I revealed my DIY Desk Makeover for our Project in Progress this month. I am so happy with the way it turned out. I have a couple more projects to work on for it this weekend, one of which includes a trip to the fabric store.

Great Reads.

shavonda_header

On Tuesday, we featured Shavonda and her blog  A Home Full of Color. You can check out her great featured project and DIY craft here.

Little Things.

Pottery Barn Clock

Wednesday I shared my new guest room clock thanks to Pottery Barn. I think it works perfect in this space and has a classic look.

What I’m Loving Right Now.

Happy Chic/Jonathon Adler & JCP

I get to go see the Happy Chic collection by Jonathan Adler today at JCP. Thursday, I shared a few of the items I have spotted online that I’m a little obsessed with.

Weekend.

I’m just looking forward to not having a jam-packed Saturday and Sunday. We are going to do a little more kitchen work. I filled all the nail holes in the baseboards and now we just need to paint over them.

Here is a shot of the progress via my phone and Instagram:

kitchen progress

We are right in the middle of this kitchen renovation now. The cabinets are done, the hardwoods are installed, we’ve painted all the walls, and are almost done installing the baseboards– It’s getting serious. The big money items are coming up. Countertops, backsplash, appliances, some new lighting fixtures…$$$$’s as far as the eye can see.  Of course,  we have been patient and saving and are hopeful to have it all finished by September/October.

Kitchen Possible! Update.

Kitchen Possible!

Time to pull out the good old list again…

So, here is “The List”:

Phase One

Refinish cabinets and add new hardware

Prime & paint walls and trim

Add crown molding & chair rail

Refinish china cabinet

Hang new chandelier

Rip out floor

Lay down hardwoods

****Break for Busy Season/Holiday Time****

Phase Two

Install new baseboards

Install new quality countertops–quartz, marble, or granite….leaning towards marble or white granite that looks like marble

Tile backsplash

New faucet fixture

Add new kitchen lighting

New stainless steel appliances

Install garbage disposal

Add wainscotting, window moldings, door moldings, molding above cabinets

…make another list for all the finishing touches, hahaha!

It feels good to be in Phase 2 and knowing that in less than 6 months we will be enjoying our new kitchen. It is already a night and day difference and feels like a happier space even if it is a little bit of a mess right now.

So, I guess I need to make a decision on that countertop really soon! Time to get my booty in gear!

Have a fantastic weekend!!

2012 in Review

Good Morning!

As we approach another year, I wanted to reflect back on 2012.

Back in June of this year, I started this little blog not really knowing what I was doing or if anyone would read it. I love to design and DIY and I wanted to share inspiration with others. After these past 6 months, I am so grateful to all of you! You have made blogging a passion. I am truly thankful for each one of you that check in daily to see our latest project. You have all made this worthwhile.

I have gone through quite a few of my posts to select the most viewed and shared projects. I laugh at myself sometimes, and cringe at some of the poor photos in the beginning! Let me just say I have never ever wanted a DSLR camera and 50 mm lens like I do now!

So, without further ado, here are your favorites:

BedroomCollage_zpse609f936

Our bedroom makeover has been one of our most popular posts. It is still my favorite room in our house. I am so glad we chose to remodel that room first. With all this constant remodeling going on it is nice to have a wonderful place to lay our heads at night.

Livingroomcollage_zps55b06552

The little livingroom mini-makeover has really made me love this space. Dave wasn’t sure about my idea to paint the wall blue, but I am happy to report that he loves it too, just as I knew he would. He should know by now to trust my design decisions, right? Well, I think he scratches his head at me more times than I want to admit, but it works. Thank you, Honey!

mirroredtable_zps73b69314

I love that you all loved my glam take on this table. It is one of my favorites too! Simple changes can really make a piece of furniture unique!

Makeovers1_zpsf2ee3399

These are the other furniture makeovers that became popular. My favorite is the old Zenith TV table. You also loved the white-painted china cabinet and the mirror-glassed metal accent table.

DIYs1_zpsed3f2391

DIY is the heart of this blog. I have a journal full of ideas for 2013! My personal favorite is the large scale art I made with a shower curtain from Target.  These are the most popular from 2012: papered storage box, microwave cart turned bar cart, faux mercury glass,  fabric and nailhead pinboard, and the goodwill lamp makeover.

For 2013, we will continue our Kitchen Possible!  kitchen renovation. We hit the half-way point right before Christmas and will continue it after the new year. I also have some simple yet great DIY’s planned to share…and some exciting news to share too!!

I will be on Holiday Break starting this Saturday and won’t return until after Christmas, so I wish you all the best this holiday season.  I’ll be loving on my family, eating way too many indulgent foods, and enjoying our first snowstorm from the comfort of a fireside chair sipping coffee of course.

Thank you again for your support! Best to all of you in 2013!

Kitchen Possible! Update December

P1090341

Oh, home remodeling!

Just incase you forgot…this is where we left off in November the last time we checked in:

p1080367

Living without kitchen floors for almost a month was a dirty and interesting experience. I am happy to report we finished the hardwoods…almost. We may have miscalculated the amount of flooring we needed…ok, we did miscalculate! Not a big problem, we just have to go pick up one more box of flooring.

P1090333 P1090330

I can actually start to see glimpses of  the kitchen I’ve created in mind! My family is also happy that our kitchen is looking like a kitchen again and we can actually walk in there now without shoes on! For the first time in weeks, I actually served breakfast in the kitchen today…not in our livingroom!

P1090337

My living room was starting to look like a garage sale! I like neat and tidy. I feel like life is chaos when my house is in disorder. It was a mental battle some days. All you DIY’ers out there, you know that feeling! It was quite interesting getting a tablescape put together for our link party, but it all worked out in the end.

P1090327

So, flow is slowly being created in this fixer-upper of a house. It’s so nice to see the same flooring continuing between these rooms now.

P1090336

Phase One of our Kitchen Possible! Remodel is almost complete! We just have to finish the little corner of the floor and install the new baseboards and we can holiday break!

P1090341

To celebrate the almost finished floor I decided to blog from my kitchen table today.

P1090340

And, yes, I totally put a Christmas tree in the dining area!

So, here is “The List”:

Phase One

Refinish cabinets and add new hardware

Prime & paint walls and trim

Add crown molding & chair rail

Refinish china cabinet

Hang new chandelier

Rip out floor

Lay down hardwoodsalmost there! Just one little section left :)

Install new baseboards

****Break for Busy Season/Holiday Time****

Phase Two

Install curtains and shutters

Add new kitchen lighting

Install new quality countertops–quartz, marble, or granite….leaning towards marble or white granite that looks like marble.

Subway tile backsplash

New faucet fixture

New stainless steel appliances

Install garbage disposal

Add wainscotting and window details

Decorate!! ( the best part)

Have a wonderful Tuesday and don’t forget to link up to Hyphen Interiors today for the Home for the Holidays Craft/DIY projects.

Kitchen Possible! Update

Hi, I know I’ve been MIA lately! I am just enjoying fall way too much with the family. This weekend got really cold so we decided to take our efforts back inside the house.

We spent a good portion of our Saturday removing the ugly old floor. We hope to have the hardwoods in this week. {fingers crossed!} That’s a big hip hip hooray!

Is it weird that I think the underlayment looks better than the floor we ripped out?

My kiddos love to help. They are really good little workers!

After a day of demo we decided to celebrate our efforts with a bowl of taco soup and our first fire of the year.

So, here is “The List”:

Phase One

Refinish cabinets and add new hardware

Prime & paint walls and trim

Add crown molding & chair rail

Add wainscoting & window details

Refinish china cabinet

Hang new chandelier

Rip out floor

Lay down hardwoods

Install new baseboards

Add new kitchen lighting

****Break for Busy Season/Holiday Time****

Phase Two

Install new quality countertops–quartz, marble, or granite

Subway tile backsplash

New faucet fixture & new appliances

Decorate!! ( the best part)

Hope you all are enjoying these days of fall!

Kitchen Possible! The Family That DIY’s Together…

Happy DIY Monday, everyone!

My family was engrossed in the last weekend of the Olympics and our beautiful fall- like weather. We did manage to squeeze in some work on the kitchen though. Nothing big, but we did get the chair rail painted and up.

DIY projects have become a family affair in our home. We made a Sunday trip over to the flooring store to purchase the hardwoods. We found a great match for our existing hardwoods through out the rest of the house. YAY!

My kids are such good sports when it comes to our projects! Go on and hug that underlayment!

So, here is “The List”:

Phase One

Refinish cabinets and add new hardware

Prime & paint walls and trim

Add crown molding & chair rail

Add wainscoting & window details

Refinish china cabinet

Hang new chandelier

Rip out floor & lay down hardwoods

****Break for Busy Season/Holiday Time****

After we got home, we each took an honorary wack at “The Floor Who Shall Not Be Named” :

Happy DIY Monday! Guess what we are going to be doing all week??

Kitchen Possible! Progress Report

Hi, my wonderful readers and fellow bloggers!

Just wanted to give you an update on our kitchen remodel. Last weekend we had our hands full and covered in paint and primer. We purchased the crown molding for the dining area and as an added bonus picked up a new chandelier at Lowe’s for only $25!

The paint colors we chose are from Lowe’s. We used Valspar Kitchen & Bath in Modest Silver (4002-1A) & Valspar Kitchen & Bath in Ultra White (right off the shelf).

This is what we hope to accomplish before the weekend’s over:

Paint crown & chair rail and install it.

Install new chandelier.

Refinish a china cabinet for more storage.

So, here is “The List”:

Kitchen Possible! Architectural Details

It’s all in the details, isn’t it? It’s what gives a room the charm and character that so many of us love. The kitchen is rolling along.  We have been painting, painting, painting! Today we are making a trip to the home improvement store to get all the moldings and detail work.

I always have a design plan and usually stick to it with some minor tweaking if needed:

Here’s the plan:

Dining area:

The bones-

The Plan:

We are going to add chair rail and customize wainscotting, and add thick base board. Also, add dental crown molding.

Windows:

Window #1

The Idea:

Add molding above windows as seen here.

Window #2:

The Idea:

Do an X design on the window as seen on this cupboard.

There’s the game plan for this weekend. Better get going on it!

Kitchen Possible!

As, some of you are aware, we are in the middle of a kitchen remodel. It is time-consuming to say the least. Between my time with my kiddos, my husband working, and all the commitments in-between, it has been a challenge to get things done. But, as of today, I am happy to report that this week I will make some progress.

Exhibit A

Going to get my PAINT ON!!

Just to update you, I am going to take you through the process…

We bought our house knowing that it was a fixer-upper. It is a great family home, but definitely needs some tweaking, and in some cases, major tweaking! The kitchen falls into this category. It is very outdated, oak and brass, a floor that the tiles are breaking, and it is dark. Not the bright, clean space I want to be spending a lot of my time in.

I wish I could wave my magic wand and have it instantly transformed, but DIY is a process and we can’t dedicate all of our time to it.

So, the first thing we did was decided on cabinets. At first, we were just going to gut and put in new, but after further consideration opted to refinish them. Rustoleum had just unveiled their new Cabinet Transformations line, and my giddy anticipation of saving a few bucks and not having to gut the entire kitchen took over.

What can I say? I absolutely love this product and have used it on many projects from cabinets, furniture, and wood trim & moldings.

Cabinet Before & After

So, here is “The List”:

Refinish cabinets and add new hardware

Prime & paint walls and trim

Add crown molding

Rip out floor & lay down hardwoods

Add new lighting

Install new quality countertops–quartz, marble, or granite

Subway tile backsplash

New faucet fixture & new appliances

Decorate!! ( the best part)

Time to inhale those paint fumes! Wish me luck!!!

xoxo–Kristin
