Hi friends! Today, I wanted to share my trip to the Better Homes and Gardens Stylemaker Celebration in New York City held on September 17th. Each year, BHG invites 75 bloggers from the world of food, home, and style to attend an all day event to celebrate their Stylemaker issue. It is a day full of sessions with the editors, networking, panels, and a fabulous cocktail party.
I was so honored to be invited again this year and it was such an amazing trip! Here’s a break down of my day at the BHG Stylemaker Celebration held at the stylish Hudson Hotel in NYC.
The Hudson Hotel was a beautiful venue for this year’s event and you’ll see why in the photos. My day started with the event check-in and a light breakfast in the hotel’s lounge. It was so great to see all my blogging friends and talk with the BHG editors in person once again. I feel like over the years I’ve gotten to know so many bloggers and I felt like I was in a room full of my friends.
As I was going through the event photos taken by the talented Avi Gerver Photography, I had to chuckle because you are going to see a lot of the BACK OF MY HEAD. Blonde hair with the deep berry blouse–that’s me! It’s like Curious George and the man in the yellow hat. See if you can spot the “girl with the blonde hair and berry blouse”.
At breakfast, I got to chat a lot with my friends Jennifer from The Chronicles of Home, Julia from Cuckoo 4 Design, and Monica from East Coast Creative. Jennifer was also my roommate and I just love our trips together.
And wherever bloggers are grouped together the phones are out…snapping pics, on social, we are all over it!

Before we were sent on our way for our first session, we were greeted and welcomed by Kaelin Zawilinski the BHG Digital Editorial Manager and the new Editor-in-chief of BHG Stephen Orr.
We all headed up to the conference area of the hotel to start our day of sessions and panels.
So much good information! It’s great to get the chance to glean from the BHG staff. They are definitely experts in their field.
After our first session we had our first networking break and a chance to see the new Vera Bradley handbag line. Vera Bradley was a sponsor this year for the event and we each got to pick our choice of four of their new handbags as a gift.
I got to catch up with my sweet friend Jennifer Stagg of With Heart and we had fun checking out the selections together.
I had enough time to catch up with some more friends and I was reunited with my dear friend Darlene of Fieldstone Hill.
I also got to know Chelsea from Two Twenty One and Shauna from The House of Silver Lining. My first day in NYC, I had a blast tooling around the city with Chelsea, Diane of In My Own Style, Julia, Jamie of Southern Revivals, and Kelly from Eclectically Vintage.
Our first panel of the day was titled The Truth About Getting a Book Deal.
It was so interesting to hear how the whole process of getting a book deal happens from the author and editor side of things. We got the scoop from Eddie Ross, Sara Forte, Rux Martin and Stephen Orr.
After a nice lunch, we headed to the second half of sessions.
I’ve been thinking more and more about incorporating video into B@H’s posts and social. BHG’s Annie Carroll had some great tips on the subject in her session on Mastering the 15-second Social Video.
Next, I headed to Eddie Ross’s session on Secrets to Styling the Perfect Holiday Table. I always enjoy seeing Eddie work his magic!
All of us bloggers were then reunited to have a Q&A with the BHG editors.
This was good fun and we heard insights from editor-in-chief Stephen Orr, Senior Deputy Lifestyle Editor Katherine Pushkar, Senior Deputy Food Editor Nancy Hopkins, Executive Editor Oma Blaise Ford, East Coast Editor + Producer Eddie Ross, and Assistant Deputy Home Editor Amy Panos. Executive Editor of the BHG Brand Jill Waage played moderator.
After another networking break we had our last panel of the day. The Stylemaker Discussion panel was moderated by pattern and color expert Khristian A. Howell who I had the pleasure of getting to know that evening. It was fun to hear and see all these different personalities discuss what inspires them. We heard from food and TV personality Clodagh McKenna, designer Patrick Mele, food blogger and author Erin Gleeson, and designer Kishani Perera.
To end the day, we had cocktails on the magical rooftop terrace of the Hudson Hotel.
Simply Juice Drinks was also a sponsor this year and provided some tasty drinks for us to enjoy.
Every tabletop had the most lovely flower arrangements. Kale is such a great addition to your fall florals.
The swag bags were loaded with all kinds of goodies and of course one of my favorites was Eddie Ross’s new book Modern Mix. It was my inflight reading on the way home and I highly recommend it if you are a treasure hunter like I am!
The rooftop terrace was a lovely way to end our day with BHG. I got to meet designer Patrick Mele. I’ve been following his work for a while and he was so kind to chat with me.
Brooke Shields who was the cover girl and had a lovely feature in the Stylemaker issue dropped by to dish on her love of design.

The party was so much fun and I got to catch up with so many friends. I wish I would have captured more photos of all my dear blog friends. I think next time I will have to pack my camera or just not have my phone die!
The day was so full of inspiration and creativity! I also have to give a shout out to Kaelin, Kenzie, and the entire BHG team for all their hard work organizing and heading up this event.
I definitely look forward to it and I always leave it wanting to hit the ground running to make B@H a brand that you will all continue to love.
