BLISS AT HOME SUMMER HOME TOUR 2015
Happy Summertime everyone! Today, I am sharing my casa as part of the 2015 Summer Home Tours hosted this year by Marty of A Stroll Thru Life. 30 DIY, design, and lifestyle bloggers are opening their doors and showing you how they do summer. Super fun and it’s going to be full of inspiration! Are you coming from Hymns & Verses? I love Doreen’s spin on country Americana. So fresh and fun!
If you are new to B@H, we are living in our remodel. Yes. There is dust daily, rooms ripped apart, and I vacuum like crazy! My husband and I bought the home I grew up in, here in my hometown of Rock Island, Illinois, and we are taking on the challenge of turning this 1950’s brick house into our dream home. It’s a labor of love in more ways than one. We both work, are raising our two young boys and baby dog Zoey, and making sure we don’t skimp on living life in the process. It’s a lot of moving parts, but we’re making it work.
Today, you will be seeing our main living space. Our entry way, living room, and my office nook. The finished areas of our home basically. We have a bathroom we are almost finished with, a dining room that I just started tearing apart, and a kitchen and whole second level to tackle yet. Oh, and don’t get me started on the outdoors. We are definitely a work in progress around here.
Now, let’s tour!
Our entry way went brighter this year with some DIY art, a stack of colorful design books, and I worked in some naturals to add warmth.
My little fur baby, Zoey, is our 6 pound Maltese. She plays hard and naps hard.
I don’t like to go crazy with decorating in these warmer months. We spend a lot of time outdoors, and it’s more about relaxed living inside. I “decorate” a lot with food we are going to eat and things we are using or reading. I’m going to call it relax-a-decor. Pretty much anything goes and it doesn’t have to be perfect.
Our entry way adjoins to our living room. I like to brighten things up with pops of punchy color and I am so into these banana palm pillows right now! I just bought shorts like them too!
My coffee table is always changing. Right now I am reading that rose garden book. I need to work on mine and I want to have a green thumb one of these days.
The vintage brass herons are thrifted and they just say summer to me. I love displaying them this time of year.
I frequent flea markets and resale shops, especially in the summer months, because the furniture selection is HUGE. The newest addition to our living room is that vintage Thomasville faux bamboo credenza. It is now holding our smaller tv. The battle of the tv-less living room is over. We have one in our family room, but now the littles have one upstairs too.
I have been collecting albums and love playing them. It is now a thing. We went Hawaiian with our summer music picks recently.
One of my boys snuck into this photo for his 20th water break of the day. We have a revolving door with the kids this time of year. So summer, right? He’s giving me the I NEED YOUR HELP stare.
The only change on our mantel is this super cute pineapple print by Laura Dro.
My bedroom is pulling double duty as an office nook right now. I won’t get a proper office back until the second level gets walls and a floor, so I got creative and I am using an old desk as a nightstand too. And…I sucked down those Pellegrino sodas today. I was so busy meeting with a client and shooting our home today that 38 grams of sugar was my meal replacement. Not good. Must do better tomorrow…and go to the gym.
I like to have happy vibes in my workspace, so a fun screen saver and some bright pencils do the trick. They make me think summer when I have to be at the computer.
I’ve been on a furniture hunt so far this summer and here is a peek at the latest addition to our bedroom. I can’t stop loving this mid-century dresser. The lines, the gold details, and the shape of the drawers are soooo swoon-worthy! Now, we have a place for those stacks of clothes in the closet.
Well, I hope that wasn’t too underwhelming. I realize I don’t have any beautiful outdoor spaces to show you right now or tons of rooms for you to see, but hopefully you got some good summer vibes and easy decor ideas.
