It’s been awhile since I’ve given you an update on Little Sam’s bedroom makeover. His big boy room is coming along! The boys’ rooms are something that I have been working on behind the scenes.
Just to recap…I sat both the boys down for a “design consultation” a few months back. They both have such distinct tastes and interests. It has been so much fun working on their rooms. I feel like by giving them these unique spaces I am helping to mold them into the people they are supposed to be. That’s just my cheesy take on it all, I guess.
As you may know, Sam is my very active 5-year-old. He is such a cool kid. Way cooler than me, that’s for sure! His design plan is very specific. He wanted black, whites, and grays. Specifically, white walls and black trim…gotta love that! On his must-have list is a teepee, a place for his buddies (a million stuffed animals!), a hanging basket chair, a guitar and a place to have a club house and read. He is also drawn to clean spaces. His tastes pointed towards Scandinavian design and Mid-century furniture. I found that really interesting and surprising. I totally love his style!
His room is quite tiny so we are making the most out of every inch. The teepee is quite the space sucker but it does check 3 things off of his list: the teepee (duh!), the club house, and the reading space. I wanted some book storage next to it for him. I found the perfect shelving unit for his room. When I say perfect, I mean it!
I found a 3-piece shelving unit at Holly + Martin that has a modern design and guess what– black, gray, and white cubbies!!! The Ottico 3-piece tables set can be used as a shelf or separately as tables. They stack together which is so clever! Can we say design kismet? It also has the lighter wood legs that go great with the Scandinavian design aesthetic Sam likes and it works seamlessly next to his teepee.
I am loving how this room is coming together for him. I was trying to find a rug for his space, right now he has inherited our old living room rug which is the right size for his room and the color works. We have so much more to do and share, but I thought it would be fun to give you guys a progress report today.
I have my eye on some bedding, we plan to DIY some lighting for him, I have a cool built-in toy storage idea I am tweaking, and then all the little details that will make his room super special. A lot of it will have to be put on hold since we are spending the summer on the East Coast.
I’d like to thank Holly + Martin for the furniture featured in this post. As always, I only share things I love and all opinions are 100% mine.
*Also, I am over at Mohawk Flooring’s blog Creative Home today sharing how I made the DIY Triangles Banner. Come for a visit! I love their blog and they have a great line up of contributors. Endless ideas!!
Now I am going to go hang out with a boy in his teepee…
