Expect the Unexpected??

Happy Thursday, Everyone!

SOOOO…I wanted to post a finished photo menagerie of how I incorporated my Goodwill finds from yesterday into my living room design. Yeah…I didn’t get too far with that because the very unexpected happened:

The unfinished half of my basement that we use as a storage area, became compromised in the matter of seconds.  Not to go into details, let’s just say the rest of my day involved moving all the items from my storage area into a safe zone. Nothing got damaged since most everything was in totes,  and I happened to be home when it happened. I am very thankful for that. A visit from the plumber and some cash later the problem got resolved.  My husband, (bless his heart!), did all the icky clean-up and  he cut all the carpet out of the “danger zone”  and sanitized  the area. I think all my nose hairs are burnt off with the pleasing smell of bleach!

I had just started my decorating adventures before the unexpected took over my day. Here are a few of the things I started working on:

Here’s that birdcage I picked up from yesterday. I am pulling navy through this space and just spray painted it.

Still a work in progess.

The Churchill English China worked into my bookcase.

Not the most exciting of posts, so I leave you with some of my inspirations that I am pulling from for the living room mini-makeover:

Can I just say BEST HUSBAND EVER! This man insisted that I have no part in the clean-up and would not take no for an answer. I got to go hang  out with my kiddos at a friend’s house while he dealt with the aftermath.

How lucky am I!?!

  2. Ugh we’ve had our share of floods, once in the kitchen in Illinois then our second bedroom in San Diego..tell me about it! We’ll no work for you yay! Hey is that a baby charging table in the corner because I’m envisioning a bar cart!!!!!!?????? BTW- my gosh, you are stunning and your Husband is way lucky to have you!

    • Oh, Jeni, thank you so much for the sweet compliment. I think I posted a formal photo of us just so I’d feel better about my appearance today! After being in my sweats all day and working in the storage room trying to get everything back in order, I feel icky! I am a hot mess today :) The changing table we are storing for a friend and I am so glad it didn’t get in the mess from yesterday! Phew! Bar carts are all the rage right now and having a comeback for sure! What part of Illinois did you live in?

      • I am in Rock Island, Illinois. 3 hours east of Chicagoland and right on the Mississippi River. I grew up here, and my husband did too. We lived in central Illinois for a while, then Tennessee and decided to come back.

      • I found the best thrift stores in Waukegan! Great times there. Well there is always another possibility of needed to head back to IL. We just never know where the Navy life leads us… :) But we choose Sicily this time and I’m loving it!

  3. Oh BTW (again), I recognize that white bubbled table from the bottom, the owners found that on Craig’s list! Lucky ! Im also crushing on that chain link rug. Do you think chains and chevrons can cohabitate?

    • I think anything can cohabitate, but I am a bit of a rule breaker when it comes to design. I think this is a good rule of thumb: If you mix patterns, make sure they do not compete. Have one large scale print next to a smaller scale print. I don’t know if that’s great advice or not, but it seems to work xoxo
