It’s DIY Monday, and today is all about the guest room. Be our guest…
Having guests, whether long-term or overnight, is such an opportunity to share your home and shower them with comforts. I have to admit, I do get a little excited when I get a call from someone and they ask to stay with us! I love inviting others over to share our life!
Here are some easy tips, that anyone can do, that will enhance your guest room. These are little to no cost to you. Most of this you could get from around your house.
1. Stock a drawer with kleenex, coasters, and a night-light.
2. Stock a drawer or basket with the overnight essentials. Just in case they forgot to bring something or are staying last-minute, they will be all set!

I always make sure we have travel size items on hand. I even save things from our hotel stays, and Clinique bonus gifts just for this purpose.
3. Write them a note. I like to take a frame and just put scrapbook paper in it and use it as a dry erase board. It’s always fun when they leave you a note back too.
4. Put fresh towels in their room so they are all set for that morning shower.
5. Make it personal. I like to put a photo of a memory that I share with that person or place we’ve been together. I also think it’s cool if you add something that they have gifted you.
6. Make the bed as comfy as you can afford. Extra pillows, blankets, and a mattress topper.
7. Gift them something. I like to pass along a good read.
Remember, it’s not about perfection. It’s about giving. It’s not about how great their accommodations are, it’s showing your hospitality to them. You are showing them that they matter and you took the time to provide for them. We all have different budgets, and some of us have the 5-star hotel guest room and some of us have a pull-out sofa. Use what you have and make it a special place for them to lay their head at night.
Happy DIY Monday!

you are the Hostess-with-the-mostess! always love visiting you….it is like our second home or our personal little get away from our part of the world!
We love you guys!
It’s so important to make guests feel welcome. There’s nothing worse than arriving to stay somewhere and the ‘hosts’ haven’t even pulled out a mattress for you!! I place rolled up towels on the end of the bed, along with toiletry samples and a little welcome chocolate. I like guests to know I’m happy they are visiting.
LOVE your book! Did you cover that yourself?
Agreed! I like the chocolate idea. I might steal that one
.
Oh, this is all great. I particularly like the frame you can write on.
Thank you!
I just added that frame not too long ago. It’s such an easy thing to do, and you could do it for anything–quote of the day, bible verse, to-do list, menu. Good stuff!
What a great blog!
Awhh, thanks so much! I really appreciate it!
Wow! I want to stay at your house!
That sounds nicer than a lot of hotels these days!?! I am totally stealing your idea of having a basket of overnight essentials. It always seems like guests are forgetting toothpaste, face wash, dental floss, etc… and how nice to have it all there for them! Thanks!!!
Sure thing! I’m glad it was helpful and you liked it. People joke that one day I am going to run a bed & breakfast–not likely, but funny!
I love the little frame idea for leaving a note. I already have a box with guest supplies in the closet. I also put extra sheets and pillow cases in the closet where they can easily be found. I definitely think I need a side chair on which I can place the guest towels!
Thanks! Good idea on the extra linens in the closet. Thanks for reading

Hello Kristy!
How nice to stumble upon your blog and how timely too. I am expecting guests over in a couple of weeks and have just created a guestroom signage and stocked up the guest bathroom with toiletries. Planning to spruce up the room itself next. Thanks for the ideas!
As a blog noob I’d love for you to visit my blog and give me some feedback!
Thanks again and Cheers!
